Behind Upaya Tours
Katherine Demsky, founder of Upaya Tours, has nearly two decades of experience living and working in Nepal, India, and China. With a master's degree in Anthropology and Chinese Studies, focusing on gender studies and feminist Buddhism, she brings a wealth of expertise to every adventure.
As a UNESCO representative on sustainable tourism, Katherine is dedicated to preserving cultural heritage and promoting responsible travel. She co-created the first-ever pilgrimage retracing the footsteps of women in the life of the historic Buddha.
For over a decade, Upaya Tours has raised funds and awareness for women and girls in Nepal. These funds support literacy courses, job skills development, economic opportunities, and disability services. A portion of all proceeds sustains these impactful programs. Our commitment to community empowerment through education and economic pathways sets Upaya Tours apart.
